The narratives moving capital
Markets reprice narratives before they reprice numbers. Themes are how Portfolio Lens tracks the narrative layer explicitly instead of leaving it as intuition.
How themes work here
Identified from evidence
Themes emerge from what companies disclose and discuss, not from a fixed sector taxonomy written years ago. A theme exists when the primary sources keep pointing at it.
Tracked, not declared
A theme has a lifecycle. It gains and loses support as evidence accumulates, and the record shows when it changed rather than presenting today's version as though it were always true.
Mapped to exposure
Naming a theme is the easy half. The useful half is which specific companies are exposed, how directly, and through what mechanism.
Second-order exposure
Most investors know their direct thematic exposure — they bought it deliberately. The exposure that matters is usually the other kind: the supplier three steps down a chain, the customer concentration nobody reads to the end of, the shared end-market that makes two apparently unrelated holdings move together on the same news.
Portfolio Lens looks for that second-order exposure specifically, because it is the exposure you did not choose and therefore have not sized.
