Why we are building this

We are building the research tool we wanted and could not buy: one that reads the primary sources, writes its expectations down beforehand, and keeps the record.

The problem we kept running into

There is no shortage of investment information. There is a severe shortage of investment information that is structured, dated, and traceable to a primary source. Most of what is published is commentary on commentary, produced after the fact, and never checked against what happened.

The consequence is that it is genuinely difficult — even for a careful, full-time investor — to tell which of your judgements were good. Without a written record of what you expected before an event, every outcome feels like something you saw coming.

What we decided to build

A system that does the reading in full, states the expectation in advance with the specific disclosures that would settle it, and then keeps that statement unchanged so the result can be compared against it. Structure over volume, evidence over conclusions, and a record that survives contact with hindsight.

Machine analysis makes this economically possible at a scale that was previously the preserve of institutions. It also makes it possible to run several independent analytical perspectives over the same evidence and surface where they disagree — which, in our experience, is where the useful information is.

What we will not do

We will not tell you what to buy. We will not manufacture a confident answer where the evidence does not support one, and we will not quietly revise a published view to match what turned out to be true. When we are uncertain, the output will say so, because a research product that hides its uncertainty is worse than no research product.
